First Aid at Work Refresher Course Liverpool

Two-Day First Aid at Work Refresher Course in Liverpool: Training and Assessment for the First Aid at Work (FAW) Qualification.

Course Overview

For those already adept in providing emergency first aid in high-risk workplaces but seeking to update and refine their skills, our First Aid at Work (FAW) Refresher Course stands as an ideal solution.

This course is specifically crafted for individuals who currently possess a valid FAW certification and are looking to stay current with the latest advancements in first aid techniques and protocols.

This refresher course is especially pertinent for professionals operating in environments with elevated risk levels, such as construction, sports, manufacturing, warehousing, and hospitality sectors.

Participants of this course will delve into an array of essential skills and topics. The curriculum includes a thorough review of the roles and responsibilities of First Aiders, strategies for assessing emergency situations, and prioritising responses.

It also revisits the appropriate actions for various medical emergencies, including handling choking incidents, seizures, operating an AED (defibrillator), managing severe bleeding, shock, burns, fractures, spinal injuries, and more.

Key Features of the Course:

  • Incorporates 6 hours of e-learning for theoretical grounding.
  • Complemented by 6 hours of intensive, practical training for hands-on experience.
  • Specifically tailored for individuals currently holding active FAW qualifications.
  • Successful completion results in the issuance of a renewed FAW certificate.
  • Particularly relevant for individuals working in higher-risk environments.
  • Ensures compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, affirming adherence to legal and safety norms.

This intensive refresher course is an invaluable opportunity for FAW certificate holders to revisit and update their knowledge, ensuring they remain adept and reliable in practical situations, and keeping them aligned with the most current recommended practices for addressing workplace emergencies.

What’s Covered on the Course

The two-day refresher revisits and updates the full First Aid at Work syllabus in a condensed format, with plenty of hands-on practice:

  • Refreshing the role and responsibilities of the workplace first aider
  • CPR and AED practice, plus current resuscitation guidelines
  • Recovery position and managing unresponsive casualties
  • Choking, shock, seizures, bleeding and wounds
  • Fractures, head, neck, spinal and chest injuries
  • Major illnesses — heart attack, stroke, asthma, diabetic emergencies and anaphylaxis
  • Updates to first aid protocols since you last qualified

Who Can Attend?

The refresher is for people who hold a current (or very recently expired) three-day First Aid at Work certificate and need to requalify. If your certificate lapsed some time ago, or you’ve never held FAW, you’ll need the full three-day First Aid at Work course instead.

Assessment & Certification

Assessment is continuous and practical across the two days — no written exam. On completion you receive a new First Aid at Work certificate, FAIB accredited and valid for another three years.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I take the refresher?

Book it before your current FAW certificate expires — ideally in the final few months of its three-year life. That keeps you continuously qualified with no gap in your workplace cover.

My certificate has already expired — can I still requalify?

If it expired very recently, awarding-body guidance allows requalification within a short window at the training provider’s discretion — get in touch and we’ll advise. If it lapsed longer ago, you’ll need the full three-day course.

What’s the difference between this and the annual refresher?

This two-day course requalifies you for another three years. The HSE separately recommends a short annual skills update between requalifications — that’s optional good practice, not a formal qualification.

Is there an exam?

No — your trainer assesses you through practical scenarios and Q&A as the course runs.

Can you run the refresher at our workplace?

Yes — for teams re-certifying together, our in-house training covers up to 12 people for £395 + VAT per day.
